J: Lucy Fiore T: Brett Pope
Racing Post Rating:   70
Weight:   9st 4lbs
Age:   4

Spotlight Has been fairly consistent this year and successful four times from 11 career runs; not beaten far when third over 7½f at Ascot (handicap, broke slowly at the start) last month; likely to be thereabouts.

6 (6)
She's Imminent
J: Chris Parnham T: D L Morton
Racing Post Rating:   63
Weight:   8st 10lbs
Age:   4

Spotlight Problems at the start (broke slowly) over 6f at Ascot (handicap) when fourth beaten 1½l last week; a winner over C&D; Dan Morton's runners are going great guns at the moment; knows how to win so strong claims.

7 (9)
Platinum Shot
J: Clint Johnston-Por T: D & B Pearce
Racing Post Rating:   63
Weight:   8st 9lbs
Age:   3

Spotlight A narrow third at 11-5 at Pinjarra over 7f (handicap) last week; been running well in defeat of late and has got her head in front twice this year; can give it a good shot.

3 (1)
Little Silver
J: Joseph Azzopardi T: S J Wolfe
Racing Post Rating:   67
Weight:   9st 1lbs
Age:   4

Spotlight Useful in this grade; not beaten too far (2½l) at Ascot over 6f (handicap) when dropped in distance last Thursday; his best form stacks up so no surprise to see him go well.

4 (2)
Via Monte
J: Jade Mcnaught T: J D Jachmann
Racing Post Rating:   67
Weight:   9st 1lbs
Age:   5

Spotlight Largely in poor form of late and hasn't won for a while; finished last of seven at Albany over 6f (handicap) on his second run for this trainer five weeks ago; others appeal more given the strong opposition here.

9 (3)
Kelvin
J: Patrick Carbery T: F R Kersley
Racing Post Rating:   59
Weight:   8st 7lbs
Age:   7

Spotlight Was on the premises (third, beaten just under 2l) over 7f at Ascot (handicap) with Weapon Of Choice just behind last month; not been able to get his head in front lately so looks an unlikely winner.

5 (4)
Bandalera Miss
J: William Pike T: G J Kersley
Racing Post Rating:   64
Weight:   8st 11lbs
Age:   8

Spotlight Close up behind Megami when ninth at Ascot New Year's Eve in a Group 3; has won five times from 1m to 1m3f; returns from a layoff here; William Pike will be looking to further their good record; hard to ignore in this lower-class event and has shown she can be competitive fairly recently.

8 (11)
I'm Eugene
J: Chanel Cooper T: R W Williams
Racing Post Rating:   50
Weight:   8st 0lbs
Age:   6

Spotlight Quite a while since he tasted success; was held in seventh at Ascot over 6f (handicap, broke slowly at the start) last week when just behind She's Imminent; a lot on his plate here and looks opposable.

11 (8)
Weapon Of Choice
J: Jason Whiting T: MS K d'Orsogna
Racing Post Rating:   52
Weight:   8st 7lbs
Age:   8

Spotlight Has won three races (5½f-1m); finished sixth but wasn't beaten too far (just under 4l) when close behind Kelvin at Ascot last week upped to 7f; a few rivals look in good form so others more likely.

10 (10)
Rising Commodity
J: Keshaw Dhurun T: Mack Hall
Racing Post Rating:   51
Weight:   8st 7lbs
Age:   5

Spotlight Respectable effort (beaten just under 3l) at Geraldton over 5½f (handicap) last month; hasn't really fired since her success in a handicap at York in November; facing a testing assignment and there are better alternatives here.

Horse Racing Betting & Odds

Betting on horse racing

From the Grand National at Aintree to the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Derby at Epsom, at BoyleSports we bring you all the best horse racing betting markets and odds for all the races that matter. You’ll have odds on outright winners, you can bet on horses to place or back your chosen horse each way. You can place horse racing Accas or make a tricast bet. We’ve got all the race cards for races in the UK and Ireland, and right across the world. And that’s not forgetting our continually updated horse racing tips and predictions too.

But we’re not just about the showpiece races. Our horse racing betting includes daily markets on all major single meetings throughout the racing calendar, with today’s horse racing odds live right up until the race begins. We also have virtual events running every minute with 10 different virtuals to choose from, giving you the chance to bet on horse racing just the way you want to.

How do I bet on Horse Racing?

Before you make a bet on a horse, there are a few factors to consider. Form is key for horse race betting, as you want to pick a horse in strong form going into the race. The trainer and jockey also play a big part – just think what an experienced jockey matched with a top trainer can do. Then there’s also the age and weight of the horse to consider, as well as the timing of their last race. All of these factors can come into play in the heat of a race and can have a decisive role in the outcome.

So, you’ve considered all the important factors. It’s time to make your bet. But there’s so much more to a horse bet than simply picking a winner. Of course, you can bet on a horse to finish first, but you can also bet each way–this means you win if your horse either finishes first or in one of the top places. And then there’s spread betting. This is where you bet against the spread rather than placing a bet on fixed odds.

It’s time to choose your race, your horse and your type of bet. And off they go.

How do odds work on Horse Racing?

You’ve read the betting tips and you’ve made your prediction, but how do horse racing odds work?

The first thing you need to understand is the odds to win. This could be 4/1 or 10/1 for example, or even 100/1 for a real outsider. A horse at 4/1 has a 20% chance of winning. If it were to win you would win 4x your original stake. So, if you bet £10, your return would be £40 plus your original bet.

Now that’s the simple part. Horse race odds will also include odds to place for each way betting. An each way bet is where you make two bets. One to win, and one to place. The odds to win will be shown in the usual way.

The odds to place will also be a fraction, usually 1/4 or 1/5 – these reduced odds represent the fact there’s a higher probably your horse will finish in any of the top four or five places than first. For a £10 bet for a horse at10/1 with EW odds of 1/5, your winnings would be calculated as follows:

To finish first at 10/1  £100 profit  £10 stake.

To place  EW 1/5  £20 profit  £10 stake
